Who Manny Is

From a kid in New York to a builder in Las Vegas.

Manny Kess is an entrepreneur, an investor, a father, and a neighbor — running for Clark County Commission, District E, with a record of building real things in real places. Here's the long version.

Manny Kess is an entrepreneur, investor, and community leader with more than two decades of experience building and leading businesses in highly regulated, competitive environments.

Manny grew up in New York and spent his early years at the U.S. Naval Academy, where he built a strong work ethic and a deep respect for service and accountability. While attending the Academy, he lost his father — an experience that profoundly shaped how he approaches leadership, responsibility, and resilience.

Like many families and small business owners, Manny faced serious financial setbacks during the Great Recession. He rebuilt from the ground up and chose Nevada as his home 14 years ago. Starting with limited resources, he built The Kess Group into a respected hospitality organization, working with athletes, entertainers, business leaders, and local families.

Manny has built and operated businesses across restaurants, real estate, travel, and consumer ventures. These experiences gave him firsthand insight into budgeting, regulation, land use, and long-term planning. Throughout his career, he has focused on creating jobs, supporting families, and reinvesting in Southern Nevada.

Manny speaks openly about the lessons he learned along the way. Each challenge sharpened his judgment and reinforced the importance of transparency, preparation, and steady decision making — qualities he believes public service demands.

Above all, Manny is a father. His daughter drives his commitment to safer neighborhoods, responsible leadership, and long-term opportunity for the next generation.

Manny is running for Clark County Commission, District E, because he believes county government works best when leaders make transparent, fiscally responsible decisions guided by the long-term interests of the community.

The long version, in chapters.

For anyone who wants a fuller picture, here's the story Manny tells when there's time to sit down and have a coffee with him. It's a story about a kid from New York who learned what it took to build things, lost what he built, moved across the country with nothing, built again — and now wants to bring that same scrappy, accountable approach to the table at the Clark County Commission.

Early life

Growing up in New York New York

Manny was raised in New York. His parents emphasized hard work and personal responsibility, values that would later define his approach to business and public service. As a teenager he was recruited as a soccer player and held college scholarship offers from multiple service academies and Ivy League programs before settling on Annapolis.

1997

Manny entered the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis. Plebe year is the first year of attendance — a famously demanding period that teaches discipline, teamwork, and accountability. Manny carried those lessons forward.

1998

The loss of his father Annapolis, MD

While at the Academy, Manny's father passed away. He has spoken about it openly in interviews and on his campaign site as one of the most formative experiences of his life — one that shaped how he thinks about resilience, family, and what it means to lead.

Early 2000s

Building businesses from the ground up New York, NY

Manny opened restaurants in New York including Taverna Z, Privilege Bar in Hell's Kitchen, and Torinos Gourmet Kitchen in Midtown Manhattan. He learned, in his own words, what it takes to make payroll, deal with health inspectors, manage vendors, and serve customers across a long, hard week.

2008–2010

The Great Recession New York, NY

Like many small business owners, Manny faced serious financial setbacks during the Great Recession. His New York restaurants closed in the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis. He has talked openly about this period — not as something to hide, but as a defining piece of his story.

Why Manny is Running

Four convictions, learned the long way.

These aren't slogans. Each one comes from a chapter of Manny's life — a chapter that's a matter of public record, and a chapter he'd be happy to tell you about over a cup of coffee.

Conviction 1

Show your work.

The Naval Academy teaches you that there are no shortcuts on the people whose lives depend on you doing the job right. As a commissioner, Manny would expect the same standard from county departments — and from himself. Spending tied to outcomes. Contracts judged on performance. Disclosure that's easy to find and easy to read.

Conviction 2

Build something real.

You can't fake a business. You either make payroll or you don't. You either deliver for the customer or they don't come back. Twenty years of running restaurants, real estate, and hospitality ventures has given Manny a healthy allergy to plans without deadlines and budgets without owners.

Conviction 3

Get back up.

Manny lost his businesses in the Great Recession. He talks about it because it's the truth, and because it's the chapter that taught him the most. Bouncing back is not a metaphor for him. It's a fact. And it's why he doesn't promise shortcuts to anyone who's struggling now.

Conviction 4

Be the neighbor you'd want next door.

Manny is a father. His daughter goes to school in Clark County. He thinks about the streets she walks, the air she breathes, the kind of community he wants her to inherit. That perspective shapes every decision he makes — and the kind of commissioner he intends to be.
